How do I know how long of a service I need? This is a personal preference. A good rule of thumb is based on how many "problem areas" you may have. One or none would constitute a 60 minute service, two-three would be able to be fit into an hour and a half session, three or more would be able to be addressed in a two hour session. Also, depending on how long it has been since your last massage can be a factor. If it has been more than six months, an hour and a half session would be sufficient. Of course, we just want you here, so whatever you can fit into your schedule works.
What should I wear? This is based on personal comfort level. Many people choose to disrobe completely, others choose to leave their undergarments on. During your service, only one body part is exposed at a time. We will always respect your privacy and will do our best to make you comfortable.
How often should I come for a massage? This is dependent upon your health goals and how active or sedentary your lifestyle is. The more extreme you are on either end of the spectrum, the more often you should invest in massage therapy. Many people receive massage monthly, whereas people with more significant health concerns come in more often. Discuss your questions or concerns with your therapist and they will be able to give you an idea as to what they feel would be in your best interest.
Should I expect to be sore after a massage? Some clients report that they had some residual muscle tenderness after their session. This is entirely normal. To help alleviate any soreness, it is imperative to stay hydrated and do some light stretching on the focus areas you and your therapist discussed.
How does Craniosacral Therapy work? The fluctuation of the cerebrospinal fluid creates a variety of "tides" within the system. As the practitioner listens to these internal tides with gentle holds, the client’s system begins to access its own inner resources, little like finding keys to previously locked doors. The cerebrospinal fluid, as it bathes and protects the brain and spinal cord, carries an intelligence and potency, which becomes mixed with other bodily fluids via the dural membranes. A Biodynamic Craniosacral (BCST) therapist learns to listen deeply to the system, tapping into its inherent intelligence, while focusing on the system, assisting it to remembering its original blueprint of health. People who may benefit from BCST in particular are those who suffer from impingement of cranial nerves or spinal nerves, left-right imbalances, head injuries, anxiety, depression, circulatory disorders, organ dysfunctions, learning difficulties, neuro-endocrine problems, TMJ and dental problems, and trauma of all kinds — birth, falls, accidents, and other injuries, physical, sexual or emotional abuse, or PTSD.
What should I expect during a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) session? During a session, you will be fully clothed on the massage table, and your practioner may begin at your feet, your head, or your sacrum. During your session, depending on your areas of concern you've discussed during your intake, your therapist can go to any area of the body that needs to be worked with, using the contact that feels best for you. BCST involves a very light, gentle touch. During that time, the therapist will quietly, gently hold parts of your body, listening to the subtle rhythms and tracking changes in your system.
How much is appropriate to tip my therapist? The average tip for a massage therapist is 18-20% of the service total.
